CLIMACT
The Center for Climate Impact and Action (UNIL & EPFL) is closing on 31 December 2024.
Closing of the CLIMACT Center on 31 December 2024
The CLIMACT center, created in 2021 as part of an inter-institutional collaboration between the University of Lausanne (UNIL) and the École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL), will cease operations on December 31, 2024. This decision follows a decision by the two institutions not to extend the partnership beyond the initial agreement.
CLIMACT's major achievements include the creation of an interdisciplinary community of over 75 researchers and 95 CLIMACT Scholars, as well as the funding of 17 interdisciplinary research projects generating over CHF 1.4 million in external funding. CLIMACT has also distinguished itself by organizing some 60 seminars and 20 events, as well as participating in major initiatives such as SWEET EDGE ou UrbanTwin. CLIMACT has forged significant links with the media, industry and political decision-makers, and is actively involved in collaborations both within and outside its partner institutions.
The transition to a sustainable future remains a priority. Despite the Centre's closure, ongoing projects will continue to run to completion, and affiliated researchers will pursue their collaboration within the framework of other existing structures and initiatives, such as the Competence Centre in Sustainability (CCD), the Expertise Center for Climate Extremes (ECCE) and EPFL’s new Vice Presidency for Strategic Development (Prof. Stéphanie Lacour). Please note that Prof. Michael Lehning serves as a contact point for questions.
If you are a media or political professional, we invite you to consult, until 31 December, our list of climate experts, a valuable resource for continuing to make academic research available for informed journalism and policy decisions based on current climate science.
The CLIMACT team thanks you warmly for your interest and support over the past three years.
